Aligning on current and future projects and initiatives brought members of the AEM Sustainability Council to Kansas City this week ahead of the association’s annual Product Safety & Stewardship Conference and Liability Seminar.
Led by Sustainability Council Chair Tiffany Brand of The Toro Company, the meeting focused on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) benchmarking and storytelling, regulatory developments impacting the non-road equipment manufacturing industry, as well as work being done to promote sustainability-related activities to the AEM membership and the general public.
“AEM is committed to sparking ideas and advancing long-term priorities to help our members understand environmental compliance standards, evolving regulations, supply chain complexity, and more,” said AEM Vice President of Construction and Utility John Somers, who serves as the staff liaison for the AEM Sustainability Council. “We appreciate all of the hard work and valuable insights, as they are crucial to our ongoing efforts to drive lasting industry change.”
Specific agenda items covered during this week’s gathering of the AEM Sustainability Council include:
- Potential outcomes and industry use cases associated with EHS benchmarking and storytelling, as well as details regarding a soon-to-be-launched initiative
- Efforts to update and optimize AEM’s sustainability-related thought leadership content throughout the summer and into the fall
- Next steps for member-led work on growing supply chain success (on the heels of the successful launch of AEM’s Human Rights Assessment template)
In addition, the group heard from American Rental Association (ARA) Vice President Tom Doyle and representatives from Sunbelt Rentals, United Rentals, and Herc Rentals on the rental industry trying to understand Scopes 1, 2, and 3 carbon reporting (and the development of common and consistent industry resources).
“AEM and its Sustainability Council are working to provide a framework that supports best practices for a more viable world,” said Somers. “We encourage our members to make their voice heard regarding AEM’s sustainability initiative, and we welcome their questions, feedback, concerns and ideas to help guide our work ahead.”
